Throughout our life journey and in our work, people will constantly ask “Who are you?” Here’s my answer: I am an out-of-the-box thinker and problem solver who enjoys advancing organizations and helping individuals through strategic marketing and communications. These efforts include brand management and positioning, digital marketing strategies, web development and content creation, and public relations. I am savvy at using social media as well as writing promotional copy, particularly for storytelling and conveying the heart of one’s brand. Read my not-so-short story for example.
I am passionate about writing (as seen in The Huffington Post), creative developments, and education. In fact, I have more than 15 years experience in the field of education, which includes communications leadership in a top K-12 private school as well as public and private universities (fun fact: I was once an MTV intern). I value the sharing of authentic experiences to empower and educate others. This has fueled my entrepreneurial spirit, which led me to establish RAW BRANDED LLC, a marketing and communications company that aims to help creative people and small businesses with a passion and purpose to make their mark through authentic brand building. Introverts are welcomed! I also have experience teaching online and in-person at leading universities, which includes mentoring small business owners.
I am a proud graduate of Columbia University, where I earned my master’s degree in strategic communications and learned from pros like Simon Sinek (fun fact: He judged my master’s thesis defense … and asked about my “why!”), and Rutgers University, where I earned bachelor’s degrees in communications and psychology. Go Lions and Scarlet Knights!
Do you need similar degrees to start making your mark? Not necessarily. You’ll learn all about the ways you can shape your brand right here on my blog! Relax. Read. Relate. Release! After all, learning is a life-long endeavor. Once you are #RAWBRANDED™, you can #BeTheBestBrand (yes, you can follow these conversations on social). I welcome opportunities for teaching and youth mentorship as well as public speaking. If you’re interested in working with me, just send me an email.
Working for Renée Walker has been one of the most rewarding experiences during my time as an intern. I was never looked at as an intern but as an equal employee, which is an extremely important personal value. Renée provided me with hands on experience and expected me to work independently and solve problems on my own. I was faced with multiple problems on a daily basis in which Renée taught me the proper way to address in the way a director would. Along with the well-rounded set of problem solving strategies I gained during my time with her, I was also able to refine specialty skills such as Photoshop and video editing that allowed me to be creative while improving the Rutgers SMLR brand. Renée made working fun and was keen to keep my interests in mind while helping me to develop new traits that have benefited me in my career today.
I’ve had an enjoyable experience working for Renée Walker as an intern. She allowed me to embrace my marketing and communications skills and implement them in social media, video, and on the university’s website. I appreciated that she treated me like a full-time employee and gave me advice in support of my career goals. She made my experience fun. Before I completed my internship, I helped to bring on another intern to ensure that Renée was in good hands. I knew that that student would also have a rewarding experience.
Upon my last semester at Rutgers , I had the pleasure of interning for Ms. Walker. As her research assistant, I was presented with multiple tasks at once, while adhering to all deadlines. These tasks included completing written assignments in a timely manner, editing the website, updating social media content, and working with photography and Photoshop. Through this experience, I have gained confidence in my abilities in the workplace. This was a direct result of the opportunities and challenges that Ms. Walker exposed me to while working on specific projects. I was able to advance my skills in technology, which is essential in the business world. These skills consisted of coding, computing, web design, networking, planning, leadership, and organization. Ms. Walker is such a phenomenal individual, leader, and mentor. I have taken what I have learned through my experience working with her and implemented these lessons, tips, and skills into my career and current position.
